Teacher Instructions
Science inquiry begins with a phenomenon -- we observe something, wonder and want to learn more!
What phenomenon will you explore with your students this month? How will they share their observations & ideas about the phenomenon BEFORE you begin to investigate?

Three simple steps to show your students' science:
- Introduce a phenomenon
- Assign prompts/student task
- Share with CRS
Instructions and resource links below. We hope you and your students have fun and thoughtful conversations about something interesting. Will it be spider webs or seed germination, magnets or the Milky Way, or something else that fascinates your students and leads to great questions for learning more.

Step1: Introduce a Phenomenon
Introduce a phenomenon to begin a science lesson or unit. This phenomenon can be from your curriculum or you may select a phenomenon to explore from the November Challenge Resource Slide Deck
Teacher Resources:
- If you are using FOSS, you can find resources online (FOSSweb or ThinkLink) for the anchor phenomenon for every unit.
- if you are using Mystery Science, each unit begins with a Mystery question -- a phenomenon that will serve as the basis for each lesson.
- You can select a phenomenon from the CRS Slides of Example Phenomena (in English and Spanish). What would your students like to learn about?

Step 2: Assign the November Challenge - Student Prompt/Task
YOU get to choose the assignment format and response collection format that work best for you. Some options include:
You may choose to: make copies of the appropriate slide(s) and assign through your google classroom
- Use the sample google slides (linked below)
- Create a Jamboard
- Have students respond (write/draw) in their science notebooks and take photos or scan some sample pages to submit
- Have students make a class poster, or any other creative activity that engages your students.
We created some google slides you can download and assign to your students.
Make sure you rename the copy with your name and school so that they are ready to share with us when they are done.
- Dowload a Copy of Grades TK-2 prompt/example slides (English and Spanish)
- Dowload a Copy of Grades 3-5 prompt/example slides (English and Spanish)
Step 3: Shine a light on your students! Submit your November Challenge entry
- Share the google slides or jamboard, or email photos or samples of student work. We really don't mind the format you and your students use.
- Share 10 representative examples for each monthly submission. We don't need an example from every student.
- We May Publicly Share Images of Student Work, so please only share photos or student work that CRS may share out.
