Making Science Happen Copperplate Long

THE DIVERSE STEM TALENT POOL

YOU’LL NEED TOMORROW

IS BEING SHORTCHANGED TODAY

  • Before the pandemic, 2/3 of California elementary students received less than one hour per week of science.
  • With the shift to distance learning, many get none at all
  • The gap is particularly acute in low-income communities of color.

Ways to Get Employees Engaged

CRS helps industry partners bring science outreach to life, highlighting their company’s unique role in the Bay Area economy. And, providing opportunities for employee team building while having a great time laughing and learning with kids. From soap bubbles to plant growth to how airplanes fly, activities start with wondering about phenomena from kids’ daily lives, and engage kids in active learning to explore, discover, and build understanding about the world they live in. Interwoven in the learning activities, employees serve as STEM role models by sharing their own stories of pathways into science and engineering careers. And, sharing about their pets or favorite hobbies builds connections, helping kids to imagine their own futures in STEM careers.

CRS works with industry partners to design outreach activities, assemble materials, provide efficient and effective employee training, and logistical support. Kids learn, teachers are inspired to do more science, employees gain skills and pride in their employer, and industry partners gain visibility for their community support. Everyone wins!

Popular outreach options include special Day of Science events at schools.  While distance learning is in place, CRS will help partners develop engaging “virtual” live and video outreach offerings. Gathering in person may be on pause, but the learning and inspiration can continue!
