Join together with peers and partners for the opening session of the 2020-21 online Building Environmental & Climate Literacy professional development series. Teachers, scientists, and environmental & climate educators explored tool kits, lessons, inclusive and culturally relevant connections, data sources for local air, water, and other environmental indicators, distance & hybrid lessons and tools, and more.

Featured Keynote Speakers:

Leena Bakshi of STEM4Real: Can Climate Change Be Racist?  Dr. Leena Bakshi discusses how climate change adversely affects communities of color and the systems that are in place that allow for this disadvantage to occur. Issues such as palm oil exploitation, oil refineries, and air pollution can drastically affect our most vulnerable populations. Learn what we can do as climate educators to teach with a racial justice lens. Dr. Leena Bakshi is Founder of STEM4Real, a nonprofit professional learning organization committed to combining STEM content learning with principles of equity and social justice. Kate Carter of the National Center for Science Education: Building teacher-scientist partnerships to provide powerful learning experiences and real world connections for students. Kate Carter is Director of Community Science Education with the National Center for Science Education.

Resource Fair: Round Robin Session
