Building Belonging, Fostering STEM Identity
Building Belonging, Fostering STEM Identity
Early exposure is especially powerful in shaping how students see themselves as capable scientists, which is critical since stereotypes about who “belongs” in STEM begin to take hold as early as first grade. Teaching science in the elementary years is essential for building belonging, sparking curiosity, building foundational skills, and creating equitable opportunities for all learners. By weaving science into the fabric of your classroom, you’re not just teaching content—you are nurturing identities, confidence, and the possibility of future pathways in STEM.
