Are you a Science Super Star?
Teachers, do you enthusiastically bring science experiences across the curriculum into your classroom? Do all your students participate in hands-on lessons and read and write about science? Do you and your colleagues collaborate to bring engaging science experiences to their classrooms? Does your school's staff take full advantage of the services that CRS provides to them? If you’ve answered "yes", your classroom or your whole school can take the Science Super Star Challenge!
Timeline
Science Super Star Program Begins: September 2011
Qualify (submit forms to CRS): March 31, 2012
Drawing for free assembly or other prizes: Early April 2012
Prizes brought to school: Mutually agreeable date before June
Qualifications for Science Super Star Classroom
- Fill out application (attached) and submit to CRS by March 31, 2012
- Students participate in at least 14 hands-on science lessons, read (or have read to them) one science-based fiction or non-fiction book, complete at least two science-based writing pieces, participate in at least one science-based field trip.
- Teachers participate in professional development to help them teach more science, is member of CRS and has requested support from the organization.

Rewards & Recognitions:
Every child and teacher in the class receives:
- Super Science Star sticker
- A small science trinket (such as bug box, magnets, magnifying glass)
Teacher/classroom receives:
- Science Super Star Recognition Certificate
- Entry into a drawing for classroom materials (such as garden kits, classroom books, flip cam, science equipment)
- Recognition on the CRS website
Qualifications for Science Super Star School
- Goals need to be complete and form sent to Community Resources for Science (1611 San Pablo Ave. Suite 10 B | Berkeley, CA 94702) by March 31, 2012
- School must submit at least one learning anecdote (student writing or work, something a teacher writes, or video or photos of a science experience in class)
- Whole School Membership in CRS – You’ve already done that, and thanks to our grant partners this is at no cost to most of our member schools!
- 80% of all classrooms at the school complete the requirements for a Science Super Star School
- Every student reads (or has read to them) at least one science-based fiction or nonfiction book, completes at least two science based writing pieces.
- Every teacher participates in group science planning time, makes at least one request for science planning support from CRS.
