BASIS volunteers choose their lesson topic and work with CRS staff to develop engaging activities that are hands-on and connected with grade level standards. Then, volunteers select dates and times they would like to visit classrooms.
As volunteer presentations become available, CRS Member Teachers at the appropriate grade level receive an email invitation to sign up for specific presentation dates on a first-come, first-served basis until the available dates are filled. CRS considers factors such as whether a teacher has had a volunteer presentation yet this year and whether a teacher has completed the brief online post-visit evaluation from prior visits.
Upon placement, confirmations are sent to teachers and volunteers with contact information. It is vital that volunteers and teachers communicate with one another before the lesson; making contact in advance can help ensure a smooth and successful experience for everyone! Teachers have a chance to ask questions about the lesson, and volunteers arrive prepared with information specific to your class such as students’ experience with the topic or special classroom circumstances.
