Request "ologists" for your classroom!

CRS Member Teachers, are you looking for a way to enrich your science teaching? Are you interested in having local scientist role models visit your classroom?

Our Community in the Classroom program connects "ologists" of all kinds with elementary school classrooms to give fun, hands-on presentations connected to elementary science standards.

Q: Does CIC cost anything, and how long does a presentation last?

This program is free to CRS members who teach at public elementary schools in Alameda County. Not a member? Learn more about joining today! Presentations last approximately 50 minutes.

Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare for a volunteer visit?

No special preparations are needed, though we do require that you remain in the classroom at all times during volunteer presentations!

Q: How do I request a volunteer?

CRS sends out available program dates to member teachers via postcard and email. Programs are available on a first come, first served basis. So keep checking your email or mailbox. Make sure we have your most current contact information.

Q: How will I know if my request has been filled?

CRS staff will contact you by phone or email to confirm the date you selected and to finalize a specific time for the program that works for you and the volunteer. Once finalized, you'll receive a fax confirmation. If we are unable to fill your request because the slot is already full, we will put you on a limited wait list in case the volunteer releases new dates for the program.
